"Tribals should make use of the facilities provided by the government and join the mainstream of the society," said Dr P V Bhandary.

He was speaking after inaugurating Kondadi Girijana Colony Applicants Association meant for members of Girija colony in Bommarbettu village of Udupi taluk. The members of the community had received RTCs six years ago but have not yet been allotted sites.

For the last four days, the Human Rights Protection Foundation, Udupi along with student volunteers of Manipal university cleaned and levelled the land allotted to the Koraga community members. The Kondadi Girijana Colony Applicants Association is now active.

Shashidhar Shetty, president of National Environmental Care Federation said "The facilities provided to these tribal communities by the elected representatives are not charity; but their constitutional right. Only when people of backward communities are educated and take up high government positions, can they make progress. Also, there is a need to conserve inherent skills and craftsmanship in the community."

Human Rights Protection Foundation, Udupi President Dr Ravindranath Shanbhag said, "Protest against any injustice should be non-violent. It's not important as to who is responsible for the non-implementation of the housing scheme. It is important to bring about the implementation of the scheme through peaceful means. The Human Rights Protection Foundation, Udupi is ready to provide all support for a fight for justice. The objective of the foundation is to empower backward people and provide justice to the aggrieved," he said.
