Former MLA passes away

Former Sullia MLA Bakila Hukrappa passed away on Monday morning due to illness. He was 68.

He was a resident of Mettinadka, near Guthigaru of Sullia taluk. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.

Hukrappa had contested from Sullia constituency as a BJP candidate in 1983. He was the MLA from 1983 to 85. In the 1985 election, he had contested as the Janata Party candidate and lost by 800 votes. In 1990, he had contested as a JD(S) candidate and lost the election.

In 1994 election, as a Karnataka Congress Paksha candidate, he was able to get only 2,500 votes.

He had served as the Guthigar Gram Panchayat member.

After he lost the MLA election, he was working as a labourer in rubber estates to eke out a living.
