'Career in agricultural sciences rewarding'

Pursuing agricultural sciences for a career is most rewarding, opined Dr R Muralidhara Prasad, former director of Extension, Kerala Agricultural University.

He was interacting with students in a programme organised at ICAR Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI), Kasargod.

The occasion was the National Agricultural Education Day (December 3), which is also the birth anniversary of Dr Rajendra Prasad, the first Union minister for agriculture and first President of India.

Students were briefed about various courses in agriculture and allied subjects and also about career prospects in the sector.

The importance of agriculture for the nation's economy and food security was highlighted by Dr Ravi Bhat, director in-charge, in his presidential address.

Principal scientist Dr K Muralidharan, Social Sciences head Dr C Thamban and Dr S Jayasekhar participated in the discussion. Over 150 students from different schools participated in the programme.

Students were also provided an opportunity to visit experimental fields and laboratories of the Institute.
