'Encourage physically challenged to achieve high'

Zilla Panchayat vice president Lokeshwari Gopal called upon the doctors to motivate physically challenged children to do higher achievements.

She was speaking during the World Day for Physically Disabled at Omkara Sadana on Tuesday.

"Disabled physically does not mean disabled psychologically. They too have will power to reach high, which the normal people would hesitate to. There are a lot of examples in front of us. Children having physical limitations should be given emotional support," she said.

District Principal and Sessions Judge R K G M M Mahaswamiji said that the physically disabled should utilise government benefits such as monthly assistance scheme, free bus passes, vehicle and housing facilities. Also, 3% of reservation is provided to them. The officials must provide information on all benefits the physically disabled are eligible to receive.

Zilla Panchyat Social Justice Committee president M K Viju Subramani urged to increase the honorarium amount for physically disabled. Platform should be provided to stage their talents.

Silk Marketing Board chairman T P Ramesh, Senior Civil Judge Vijay Kumar also spoke at the event. Women and Child Welfare Department deputy director Mumtaz, Additional deputy commissioner M Satish Kumar and the District Specially Challenged and Senior Citizen's welfare officer T P Devraj were present.
