Rahul owns up error, says unlike Modi, I am human

A day after BJP workers had a field day targeting him for miscalculating inflation figures, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday owned up the mistake declaring that he was human, unlike Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"For all my BJP friends: unlike Narendrabhai, I am human. We do the odd mistake and that's what makes life interesting," Rahul said a day after he questioned Modi on rising prices of essential commodities.

A small error led to inflated figures of price rise in percentage terms by 100 points on Tuesday. This prompted the BJP to poke fun at Rahul. Realising the mistake, the Congress vice-president deleted the erroneous tweet to put out the correct figures.

"Thanks for pointing it out and please do keep it coming, it really helps me improve. Love you all," Rahul said on Wednesday.

Since his US visit in September, the Congress has succeeded in re-branding Rahul as an earnest and forthright leader who doesn't shy away from admitting mistakes.

During an interaction at University of California in Berkeley, Rahul admitted that a certain amount of arrogance had crept into the party midway during UPA-II that let to the rout of the Congress in 2014.

Recently, on the campaign trail in Rajkot, Rahul said the most difficult job in India was to be an honest politician.

"An honest politician suffers the most, I have experienced it," the Congress vice-president had said.
