Senior Congress leader and lawyer Kapil Sibal on Wednesday corrected Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said he did not appear on behalf of the Sunni Waqf Board in the Supreme Court in Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case.

Even as the Modi hit out at Sibal for seeking deferment of the Ram Janmabhoomi case in the Supreme Court, Sibal countered saying he was not the lawyer of the Sunni Waqf Board in the matter.

"The Prime Minister did not check facts. I never represented the Sunni Waqf Board in the Supreme Court. And yet he thanked the Sunni Waqf Board on the basis that I represented them. I request the Prime Minister to be a little more careful while making comments," Sibal said.

Sibal, a former law minister, said it did not behove of the prime minister to make statements without checking facts.

"I can expect your President (Amit Shah) to make such statements because I don't expect anything better from him," he said.

On building a Ram temple at the disputed site, Sibal said it would be built when Lord Ram wants it.

"We believe in the Lord. We don't believe in you. You are not going to build that temple. If you think you are, then you are mistaken," the Congress leader said.
