Man gets 20 years in jail for raping minor

The 71st City Civil Court on Wednesday sentenced  a man to 20 years' imprisonment and fined him Rs 55,000 for raping a 13-year-old girl on October 14, 2014.

Judge Sachin Kaushik convicted Sharavana of raping the minor at his house in Jnanaganga Nagar. The girl was walking  at 18th Cross, Muneshwara Nagar, Ullal Main Road, when  Sharavana's friend, Senthil Kumar, lured her with chocolates. He  offered a ride on his  motorcycle  and took  her to  Sharavana's house. Sharavana sexually assaulted the girl once Senthil left.

Sharavana gave the girl food and Rs 20 in cash before dropping her at the same spot on his scooter.  He also warned  her against  breathing a word  about  the incident. The girl's parents, however, enquired with her after noticing some changes in her body. They filed a police complaint under IPC section 376 and various sections of the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Jnanabharathi ACP, Sathyanarayan S Kudur, investigated the case and made the arrests, besides filing the charge sheet.  K S Revanna Siddappa was the public prosecutor.  Thirteen witnesses testified against the accused. Kumar was handed out simple imprisonment and fined Rs 10,000.
