Indo-US workshop on managing hazardous material

A three-day Indo-US workshop and training course on hazardous materials management will be organised by the Department of Biotechnology, Chemical and Civil Engineering, MIT, Manipal in association with the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers (ACHMM), India Chapter from December 8 to 10. The workshop will be held at Manipal Institute of Technology, MAHE, organising secretary Dr Ganesha A said.

"A hazardous material is any item or agent - biological, chemical, radiological, and/or physical- which has the potential to cause harm to humans, animals, or the environment, either by itself or through interaction with other factors," he said.

Professionals are qualified to manage such hazardous materials. This includes managing and advising other managers on hazardous materials from process planning and development of new products through manufacture, distribution and use and disposal, clean-up and remediation.

Experts from US and India will deliberate on the subject for participants to gain more knowledge as working professionals. The knowledge gained at the workshop will be of help to students and researchers in preparing for exams.
