Tailors' assn to conduct health camp

Karnataka State Tailors' Association, in association with A J Hospital, Indian Red Cross Society, will organise a free eye donation, blood donation and health check-up camp for the general public at the Tailors' Bhavana in Gorigudda, Mangaluru on December 10 at 9 am.

Addressing reporters here on Friday, Karnataka State Tailors' Association district committee president Prajwal Kumar said that district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai will inaugurate the programme. Association Mangaluru committee president Keshava Kadri will preside. Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo, Srinivas Group of College Chief Medical Officer Dr Annaiah Kulal, Indian Red Cross Society district Blood Bank Supervisor Edward Vas and district Ayush Officer Dr Muhammed Iqbal will be the guests.

Apart from general physicians, specialist doctors in ophthalmology, dermatology, obstetrics, and gynecology and ENT will be available for free consultation.

The health camps are being conducted in other parts of the state too, he said.

Prajwal meanwhile requested the state government to speed up the work towards implementation of social security programmes for unorganised sector workers, as announced in the budget. Tailors, who are part of the unorganised sector, have been quitting jobs as they are not being able to make enough profit for a living, he said and added that around seven lakh people are into the profession of sewing throughout the state, he added.

Association general secretary Premalatha Shetty, treasurer Ramesh Kanjila and district unit former president Sujatha were present at the press meet.
