Venkatachalapathy, Special Tahsildar (Bengaluru South), has been arrested by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on a charge of bribery.
A man had approached the tahsildar's office seeking adjudication in a case pertaining to dividing an acre of land in Hulimavu. The land is owned by the man's father. The tahsildar reportedly demanded Rs 15 lakh to give a favourable verdict. The man went to the ACB.
Acting on his complaint, ACB sleuths laid a trap. Venkatachalapathy had purportedly engaged a tout named Madhu to accept the first instalment of Rs 5 lakh on his behalf. ACB sleuths caught Madhu taking the bribe. They later arrested Venkatachalapathy, too.
