Rovers, Rangers' convention in M'luru from Dec 28

The five-day national-level Rovers and Rangers' convention and V P Deendayal Naidu centenary celebrations will be held at St Aloysius institutions in Mangaluru from December 28.

Briefing reporters here on Tuesday, District Chief Commissioner of Bharat Scouts and Guides N G Mohan said that Rovers and Rangers' from across the country will take part in the convention. All the delegates will be divided into three groups. One group will go for coastal trekking from Thannirbavi till Coast Guard while another team will go for nature study at Pilikula. They will carry out the study at Guthumane, Samskrithika Grama and Ayurveda Vana at Pilikula.

Another team will be involved in various activities like training in disaster management, better world, surf smart and career counselling.

Further, there will be pioneering model competition, a youth forum for discussion. Each Rover and Rangers' team will present folk culture of their state in the evening.

An ethnic fashion show will also be held.

District secretary Gopalakrishna Bhat said that on the inaugural day, the team from Dakshina Kannada will present a Yakshagana.

On January 1, centenary celebrations of Rovering will be held which will be inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner S Sasikanth Senthil. A route march will be held at 9 am which will be flagged off by Home Guards Commandant Dr Murali Mohan Choontharu. He said that District-in-Charge Minister Ramanath Rai will inaugurate while MLA J R Lobo will preside. Mangalore University VC Prof K Byrappa and National Commissioner for Bharat Scouts and Guides M A Khalid will be the guests of honour. Bhat said that V P Deendayal Naidu from Karnataka had served as the Chief Commissioner of The Bharat Scouts and Guides, New Delhi and also National Commissioner of Bharat Scouts and Guides in New Delhi. He was also the first Mayor of Bengaluru. A grand campfire will be held on December 31 at 8 pm. There are 35 Rover and Ranger units in colleges of DK district.

Ashrama kids

To introduce Scouts and Guides to Ashrama children, Dakshina Kannada Bharat Scouts and Guides will open a unit at Shraddananda Seva Ashrama in Mangaluru within 10 days.

The Bharat Scouts and Guides will take measures to introduce Scouts and Guides in Ashrams and Yatheem Khanas in the future said N G Mohan and added that the total strength of Bharat Scouts and Guides in the district is 45,745, which is the highest in Karnataka.
