Union govt promises to appoint director for Kannada Centre

Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar on Wednesday promised a delegation from Karnataka that project director would soon be appointed to Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Kannada located in Mysuru.

Receiving a memorandum from a delegation comprising Kannada writers and Kannada activists, the minister said the process of recruiting a project director was on. Javadekar also promised the delegation to sanction sufficient funds to Centre for taking up various activities. He also promised to write to the Unesco for including history of Kannada language in its publications for wider reach on the lines of Tamil language.

The delegation led by Kannada Development Authority S G Siddaramaiah comprised Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Manu Baligar, writer Nagathihalli Chandrashekar and others. Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation Sadananda Gowda was also present during the meeting.
