Smooth NY bash amid tight security

Last Updated 31 December 2017, 20:09 IST

The alleged  mass molestation of women in the city's party hub last New Year's Eve  didn't  deter revellers from  flocking to MG Road, Brigade Road and Church Street to ring in 2018.

Extensive police security, coupled with elaborate CCTV surveillance, ensured the celebrations passed off peacefully.

Revellers - old and young alike - hit the streets, wearing red devil horns and floral tiaras, and holding Happy New Year balloons.  Whistling and cheering, they  didn't forget to take selfies.

All watering holes in and around MG Road were full. Roadside eateries, too, did brisk business.

Shreya Gopal, a techie, visited Brigade Road for the first time to celebrate New Year and felt completely safe. "Last year, I heard about the untoward incident, but after visiting here, I don't feel unsafe. I am having fun with my friends."

Ankit and his girlfriend Vivani wanted to celebrate the first anniversary of their relationship in the same restaurant  on Church Street where they became friends.

"Ankit proposed to  me last year at sharp 12. This year, too, we wanted to celebrate our memories here. So, we planned a special dinner here," she said.

Allan Joseph, from Kerala, said: "Bengaluru is a vibrant city. I come here to celebrate Christmas and New Year  with my friends. It's an amazing experience." Joseph and his friends hummed 'Nam Ooru Bengaluru', a song from  the Malayalam  film 'Bangalore Days'.

Taking New Year's resolution is common during this time of the year. Some people have taken meaningful resolutions.

Pavan S H, who is studying to be a chartered accountant, has resolved to find a good job and repay his education loan. "This year, I want to be serious about my career."

Tejas Mehta, a student, resolved to stop playing mobile games. "I'm addicted to mobile games. I have resolved to delete all games from my phone."

Prashika Singh, a fashion designer, wants to get more followers on Instagram. "My resolution is getting more followers on Instagram this 2018."
