Documentaries on road safety released

Mayor Kavitha Sanil released three documentaries on road safety prepared by Kannadaka Productions with the help of the Police Department, Lions Club Mangaluru and Rotary Club Mangaluru Central.

The documentaries are titled "Helmet Dharisi Dwichakra Chalayisi," "Rash driving" " drink and drive."

Addressing a press meet, project convener Srinivas Nayak Indaje said "the documentaries were a dream project of NRI Manjeshwara Mohandas Kamath. The documentaries will be screened in theatres in the future. The documentaries have messages from actor Upendra, journalist Manohar Prasad and city police commissioner T R Suresh."

Lions Club Mangaluru president Venkatesh Baliga said, "on an average 5,000 new vehicles enter Mangaluru roads every month. However, the roads have not been widened and traffic congestion is a common scene. The vehicle users fail to adhere to road safety rules. The documentaries help in creating an awareness among the vehicle users."

Producer Lakshmi Mohandas Kamath said, "I have been witness to one or other accident every time I visit Mangaluru. Accidents are caused mainly due to the failure to follow traffic signal or road safety guidelines."

Rotary Central president Raymond D'Cunha said social awareness is needed to check road accidents.
