Eight of apartment association held for workers' death in STP

Eight office-bearers of the Residents' Association of  ND Sepal Apartment, HSR Layout, were arrested two days after three  workers suffocated to death while cleaning  a sewage treatment plant in the building.  

Pradeep (44), Fernandes (42), Narasimha Prasad (49), Rushikesh Nandiyar (37), Satyajit Rawat (41), T R Parameswaran, Mahendra Srivastav (41) and Nitin Katiyar (40) were booked  under IPC section 304A (causing death by negligence) read with section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

The suspects are software engineers and businessman. They  were released on bail in the evening.  

The workers  -  Srinivas (55), of Bandepalya, Narayanaswamy (38), of Kaikondrahalli, and Madegowda (40), of Somasundarapalya, HSR Layout, died of

asphyxiation on January 7 while clearing  a blockage and fixing the pump inside the 

STP.

Narayanaswamy was a small-time contractor who had hired the other workers. Bandepalya police inspector Ramesh Kumar said they were investigating whether residents of the apartment had entered into any contract with Narayanaswamy and whether they too can be held culpable.
