Mangaluru police have taken up the arduous task of foraging Netravathi river in search of the lethal weapons used by the four suspects to kill Abdul Basheer.

The expert divers hired by the police are searching the depths of the Netravathi near the bridge on NH-66.

The accused arrested by the police in connection with the murder, have revealed that after killing Basheer, they disposed the swords and mobile phones in the river by the bridge and proceeded towards Manjeshwar.

Akashbhavan resident Ahmed Basheer was hacked to death on the night of January 3 at Kottara Chowki in Mangaluru city in retaliation to the murder of BJP activist Deepak Rao earlier that day.

While a few lethal weapons have been traced, efforts are on to trace the remaining, say police sources.

Meanwhile, two of the accused, Pinki Nawaz and Rizwan, who suffered bullet injuries during the chase, are undergoing treatment and are unavailable for interrogation. They are expected to be taken into custody in another two days.

Plea to advocates

Meanwhile, DK District Youth Congress has appealed to advocates in the city not to take up the case for the accused in both Deepak Rao and Abdul Basheer murder case.
Addressing a press meet, Youth Congress president Mithun Rai said that both incidents have harmed communal harmony in the district. Hence, an appeal will be made to Advocates Association not to take up the cases of the accused in the said murder cases.
