Last Updated 16 January 2018, 17:21 IST

Despite the ban on animal sacrifice, devotees sacrificed fowls and sheep to fulfill their vows during the Yeludandu Jodi Muneshwara jatre at Koodluru in the taluk on Tuesday.

Hundreds of devotees from the surrounding region and even from Tamil Nadu and Kerala visit the temple during the jatra to fulfill their vows.

But since two years, the ban on animal sacrifice is in place, preventing the devotees from performing the ritual. Veeraswamy, a devotee from Tamil Nadu, said that they have been following the custom since 30 years and since two years, the animal sacrifice has been badly publicised. We have to follow the customs and traditions of our ancestors, he said.

The district administration and Police department had set up check-posts at vantage points to prevent carrying of fowls and animals.
