<p> Workers of the All India United Trade Union Centre protested at Anand Rao Circle on Wednesday, demanding that the central government give ASHA workers, anganwadi staff and mid-day meals the status of government employees.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Members of the Karnataka State Anganwadi Workers Association demonstrated in front of the residence of Union minister D V Sadananda Gowda and the office of Union minister Ananth Kumar.</p>.<p class="bodytext">They demanded that the honorarium paid to the 1.3 lakh anganwadi workers and helpers should be increased.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The workers criticised the central government for passing on the responsibility of increasing the amount, to the state government. The protesters demanded that the honorarium for ASHA workers and mid-day meal employees should be increased in the state budget. </p>.<p class="bodytext">The central government has reduced funds for integrated child development and mid-day meal schemes. They later withdrew their protest as Kumar promised that he would hold a meeting on Sunday.</p>
