MHA seeks report on Kasganj violence

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday sought a report from Uttar Pradesh government on the communal clashes in Kasganj in which one person was killed and some others were injured.

The MHA has asked the state government to submit a comprehensive report about the violence that started on Republic Day and the steps taken to restore law and order in Kasganj and other areas.

According to officials, the state will also have to provide details about those arrested and other measures taken to ensure that no one escapes punishment.

The incident started in Kasganj after a motorcycle rally taken out by ABVP activists insisted on removing the chairs arranged by a group of people in Kasganj. The violence started after a stone-pelting by a mob on the motorcycle rally.

So far, 118 people have been arrested in connection with the violence.
