Maruti unveils new WagonR

Stating that the new car showcases the advancement Maruti has made in research and development (R&D), company Executive Officer (marketing & sales) Mayank Pareek said the firm has invested around Rs 290 crore in building the new platform for the new generation WagonR. Equipped with the new generation BS-IV compliant 998cc (or one litre) three-cylinder K10B engine the car delivers a power of 68PS @ 6200 rpm and a high torque of 90Nm @ 3500 rpm. The firm claims that the new engine will run 18.9 kilometres per litre under the standard driving conditions.

The new car also boasts of a a larger dimension with the overall length of the car being increased to 3,595 mm creating more space besides coming with a wheelbase of 2,400 mm.
Further, the car has been upgraded to cable-type transmission technology, which the firm claims is equipped with precise gear shift mechanism.

Other features include: fitment of a new L-shaped front suspension for improved ride comfort, tiltable steering, electrical outside rear view mirror, superior AC for faster cooling and tubeless tyres. Externally, the new car will flaunt a new grill and bigger and sweeping headlamps with blue tint giving it a refreshing new look.

It also comes with a ‘shopping tray’ fit below the co-passenger seat in the front. Meanwhile, Pareek also revealed that Maruti is beefing up its R&D in the country, for which it has invested around Rs 2,500 crore and has been hiring significantly.“We’ve in fact even hired some senior level engineers from US (Detroit) and UK (London) to help lead the team in India,” Pareek said, adding that it is in the process of building a world-class R&D facility in Rothak in Haryana. Moreover, the firm has invested another Rs 1,700 crore to expand its capacity in its Manesar plant by 2,50,000 units annually and that it will be commissioned by 2012.
