Tiger carcass found in Nagarahole reserve forest

Last Updated 01 February 2018, 11:09 IST

A decomposed corpse of a tiger was found in the BMC beat of the Nagarhole Reserve Forest Balekovu zone.

The dead tiger was aged about 5-6 years old.

As the body is decomposed, it is difficult to determine whether the dead big cat is male or female said Project Tiger coordinator Manikantan.

The teeth and nails are intact and the corpse bears bite marks.

Manikantan said that this tiger must have fought with another one while marking its territory and lost the fight to the fittest among the two. "This is common among tigers," he pointed out.

Just last week, two tiger carcasses were found in the reserve forest area at the foothills of Gopalaswamy Betta.
