'Stole office computer as home system not working'

A staff handling the police personnel pension section at the DG & IG office was arrested on Tuesday for stealing a computer, mouse and keyboard from the office.

Srinivas said he stole the items as his computer at home was not working.

Srinivas would take up computer-related work from students and private companies to supplement his income. Recently, he faced some issues while working on some students' files. As he did not have new software to open those documents, he decided to steal the office computer, the police said.

He said he stole the items on February 6 when the staff had left for the day. However, he was not aware of the CCTV cameras in the office.
