SHRC settles 8,493 cases in state

As many as 16,309 cases have been filed with the Commission

Accepting grievances from people at Kadur on Monday, Justice Nayak said that Commission can hold enquiry into cases filed either by the victim himself or by someone else on behalf of the victim. Sometimes the Commission can hold inquiry voluntarily.

He said police atrocities, atrocities on women and children, atrocities on Dalits, backward classes, handicapped person, bonded labour system, child marriage etc can all be considered as Human Rights violation.

“As many as 16,309 cases have been filed with the Commission from last March 31. Of which 3,820 cases are voluntarily filed cases. As many as 8,493 cases have been settled and compensation has been provided. Another 8,947 cases are being investigated, of which most of the cases are against police atrocities,” Justice Nayak informed.

Tahshildar B R Rupa, Circle Inspector Ramesh, Block Education Officer Ranganath Swamy and others were present.
