Clearing of Suraksha Yatre banners irks BJP

Last Updated 06 March 2018, 17:51 IST

BJP leaders have expressed their anguish at the Mangaluru City Corporation for clearing the flex, banners, hoardings put up by the BJP ahead of Jana Suraksha Yatre in Mangaluru on Tuesday.

The MCC has initiated a drive to clear all the banners and hoardings in the city. In fact, Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil on Monday had served a show cause notice to MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer for failing to act against unauthorised hoardings, banners and flexes in the city.

BJP workers tried to prevent the authorities from clearing the banners at Balmatta. BJP district spokesman Monappa Bhandary accused the MCC of conspiring to sabotage the success of Jana Suraksha Yatre.

He said that the MCC had not initiated measures to remove the banners and hoardings when the Congress convention was held in the city recently.

"They remained silent then but the district administration is removing banners of the Jana Suraksha Yatre. Where did they get inspiration from?" he asked.

"There was a tableau on the Siddaramaiah-led government supporting illegal cattle theft in the yatre that set out from Madikeri on March 3. As the procession entered Sullia, the tableau was seized by officials. District-in-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai is scared that people will understand the reality of the government through the Jana Suraksha Yatre," he said.
