Gas leakage from tanker disrupts traffic

Traffic on Charmadi Ghat section of Mangaluru-Bengaluru Highway 73 was disrupted near Panakkaje in Belthangady, after detection of gas leak in a tanker, on Friday.

The leakage was spotted by tanker driver at around 2.30 pm when tanker was plying from Ujire to Charmadi. The fire service personnel rushed to the spot and took precautionary measures. As a preventive measure, the electricity supply was disconnected in the surrounding areas.

According to sources, the sealing section of the tank enclosure developed a crack resulting in the leakage. A team from MRPL too rushed to the spot.

Dakshina Kannada SP Ravikanthe Gowda said that the traffic was restored on Belthangady-Ujire-Charmadi section after the leak was plugged.
