Convicted in more than half-a-dozen cases, Shyam alias Raja Reddy alias Prabhakar Reddy, gave a slip to the police at Chikka Tirupathi on the outskirts of Kolar on April 6, in the guise of answering nature call.

Shyam was being taken back to Central Jail in Parappana Agrahara after a court trial in Kolar. This was the second time that he escaped from police custody.

Four cops - an Assistant Sub-Inspector, a Head Constable and two constables from Malur, DAR were kept under suspension following the incident.

During interrogation, Shyam revealed that a friend riding a bike was waiting near the designated spot. The moment he was set free, he hopped on to the motorcycle and vanished.

The Hoskote police had specific information about Shyam's movements as he was craving for his brother's killers and walked into police trap.

In 2009, George, Shyam's brother was murdered by Navin and associates. He had confessed that he was waiting for an opportunity to avenge the murder.

Replying to a question, Kamal Pant, IGP Central Range said the police had learnt from past experiences and will make arrangements to plug the loopholes in escort. He said jail authorities too would be asked to be more vigilant henceforth.
