Highest bidder gets elected here!

Candidates for two seats in Masarahalli village of Mavinakere GP and four seats in Tashkent Nagar of Yarehalli GP were elected unanimously by the villagers. Auctioning was conducted and the highest bidder was elected.

As G Ramesh (name changed) is the sole person to file nomination for a seat in Mavinakere GP, he was elected unanimous. The seat was auctioned by the villagers to mobilise money for the construction of a temple. G Ramesh offered Rs 2.55 lakh to the temple.

While a higher price was quoted by other contenders Shivappa and Renukamma, the two failed to deposit the amount by stipulated time.  

4, 353 rejected

As many as 4,353 nomination papers for first phase of polling in the gram panchayat elections scheduled on May 8, have been rejected.

The State Election Commission conducted the scrutiny of the nomination papers inBangalore on Tuesday.

District-wise break of nomination papers rejected: Bangalore urban - 60, Bangalore rural, 130, Ramanagara - 274, Chitradurga -112, Davangere - 248, Kolar, 98, Chikkaballapur - 130, Shimoga - 514, Tumkur - 284, Bellary - 185, Bidar - 641, Gulbarga - 445, Yadgir - 435, Raichur - 347, Koppal - 356 and Udupi - 94.
