Construction of resort at Kuppalli opposed

The pristine charm of Kavishaila and surrounding places in Kuppalli which were source of inspiration for the poet laureate should be conserved. Construction of resort will spoil the beauty of the place, they said.

The ancestral house of Kuvempu has been acquired by the Government and developed into a museum.

Kuppalli Subodh, a family member of Kuvempu managed to get a piece of land sanctioned near the entry point of Kuppalli as compensation from the Government and has planned to construct a resort at the place. Kuvempu’s admirers have apprehended that commercial activities will violate the sanctity of the place.

Allotting land near Kuppalli, where literary and cultural activities are held on regular basis, for commercial purpose amounts to negligence.

Ecologists and Kuvempu’s admirers have questioned the rationale behind permitting construction of resort in Kuppalli which hosts Kavimane, Hemangana constructed in memory of Kuvempu and the tombs of the poet laureate and his son Poornachandra Tejaswi.

Forest around Kuppalli has been declared as a bio reserve in the name of Kuvempu to facilitate conservation activities. Construction of resort is against the objectives of conservation, they said.

Writers Eshwar Badiger, Vasudeva Poojary, Veeranna Basanagudi and Y Narasimhamurthy in a press release have demanded the district administration not to allow commercial activities in the place.
