Four youngsters were arrested on Monday by the Vijayanagar police for assaulting a 20-year-old cab driver near Dasarahalli, North Bengaluru, on March 26.

D J Srikanth (26), Pradeep Das alias RX Deepu (21), Vijay Kumar alias Viji (23) - all from Magadi Road - and Kiran Kumar (19), of MC Layout in Vijayanagar, are the suspects. Police have also detained a juvenile in this case who was sent to the boys' remand home.

On the evening of March 26, N Akbar Pasha was driving his cab near The Square Plate hotel in Dasarahalli. Four to five people accosted him on motorbikes and attacked him with daggers and machetes in his thighs and arms before fleeing the scene.

People passing by the place noticed the bleeding Pasha and rushed him to hospital. The cab driver called his father Mehboob Pasha from the hospital to inform him about the attack. The father lodged a complaint with the Vijayanagar police, who opened an attempted murder case and picked up the five attackers.

The incident was initially reported as a communal clash, but police ruled it out after checking the background of everyone involved in the incident, including the victim. They are holding further investigations.
