Docs remove tumour weighing 8.5 kg

Doctors of a private hospital have performed a surgery and have removed a tumour weighing 8.5 kg from a woman's stomach on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old Nazira Banu, a resident of Tavarekere village, Channagiri taluk, Davangere was suffering from severe stomachache for the past two months. She had gone to S S Hospital for a checkup and her tumour was detected during a scan, and a surgery was performed on Tuesday.

Dr Prakash and Dr B S Shivakumar from Kidwai Hospital, Bengaluru performed the surgery for more than three hours and removed the 8.5 kg tumour.

Speaking to DH, Nazira said that she was unaware of the tumour, but she had been complaining of unbearable stomach pain. Only after getting admitted to the hospital did the doctors tell her the cause of the pain and removed it, she said.

Dr Shivakumar said that it is common for women to have tumour in their ovaries. Normally, it weighs around two to three kg. But, the patient we operated had a tumour weighing 8.5 kg and is under post surgery treatment, he added.
