The police have filed a chargesheet against 11 persons over Abdul Basheer murder case.

Abdul Basheer was grievously assaulted on January 3 in retaliation to an assault on Deepak Rao.

The chargesheet filed before the Third JMFC on Thursday names 11 persons as accused. They are Kishan Poojary and Dhanush Poojary, both residents of Padil; Srijith of Uppala in Kasargod; Sandesh Kotian of Manjeshwar; Pushparaj of Vidyanagar in Kasargod; Lathesh of Mogral; Mithun alias Kalladka Mithun, Tilakraj and Raju alias Rajesh, all undertrials in Mangaluru prison; Anup and Abhishek, who showed Basheer to miscreants.

The chargesheet was finalised by CCRB ACP Valentine D'Souza, who was the investigating officer. However, it was submitted to the court by the present investigating officer ACP D S Rajendra. Further investigations are on and additional chargesheet is likely to be submitted soon.

It may be recalled that soon after the news of Deepak Rao spread, a few accused met Mithun Poojary, who was in prison, and hatched a murder conspiracy. The plan was shared by Kishan Poojary and Dhanush Poojary with Srijith and Sandesh, among others who were attending the Garodi temple fair.

They were looking for a person belonging to the Muslim community on their way towards Kottara, when they found Basheer closing his hotel and assaulted him with lethal weapons. Although Basheer was rushed to hospital, he breathed his last later.
