I am heading to Spain this summer to usher in my 50th birthday. I have a lean physique, but I have always dressed conservatively. This is my first trip abroad and I want to look Instagram-ready all the time. How should I dress to look fabulous at 50? - Rakhi Kapoor

Our body, face, and lifestyle change over the decades. Women who want to fight the frump and look smart, energetic, youthful and appropriate can wear basics to work, out to dinner and anywhere else. Wrap dresses, fit-and-flare dresses, sleeveless sheath dresses worn with snug-fitting cardigans or jackets are perfect for almost any occasion. Cardigans are a year-round fashion accessory and the best way to cover up arms that are less than toned. Go for dark mid-rise boot-cut or straight-leg jeans. Look for a lightweight wool blend (wool/Lycra is best) in black, charcoal or navy. The cut of the pants is crucial and the length must be exact. Remember to keep it simple, stay away from bling, mute the loud prints and lean toward solids.

One of my friends is having a beach wedding this summer. I am a little wary of the heat and don't want to be saddled with heavy silks and too much jewellery. What are my options? How do I look elegant enough for a wedding? - Pranali Patil

The most important thing to remember when shopping for a summer wedding is to look cool and stylish. Rock some fun florals in trendy and super flattering off-shoulder gowns. Dress up in a cute sundress or a bright maxi with chic heels or wedges. An elegant crepe sheath can also be worn in bright colours with statement neck pieces. And voil, you are summer-wedding ready!

I am a 60-year-old man with a tall, lean frame. I am heading off to Thailand for a beach holiday. I am warned the weather is bound to be humid. I am used to dressing conservatively for work. What kind of outfits should I carry with me? - Deepankar Chatterjee

The first thing you should keep in mind while choosing the outfit is the fabric. Go for lightweight fabrics (linen or cotton) to stay cool in the heat. Try pastel colours like light blue, mint green and light pink in your clothing. You can carry linen or cotton shirts, unlined cotton jackets or coats, pair them with cotton trousers. You can also opt for a waistcoat with cotton shirts and trousers.

I am in my 20s and a little on the heavier side. Come summer, I wish to upgrade my wardrobe with some shorts and skirts. What should I look for? I don't want to seem awkward and uncomfortable in shorts. - Pallavi Puranik

Feeling great and comfortable in your clothes is an important part of self-confidence, which you should always have. Choose shades of black, as the colour has a slimming effect. Go for mid-thigh length shorts and skirts which can be paired with long sleeveless printed shrugs or jackets. For your comfort, pick up some printed or striped stockings, which can be worn under your shorts or skirts.
