Alyque Padamsee is an ad guru, theatre personality and proud writer of his autobiography A Double Life.

“Bon Vivant,” he says. Padamsee believes in living a good life and so his favourite travel destination reflects the same. Rio de Janeiro it is. He loves this Brazilian hot  spot, which has oodles of sun and sand to offer. “The beaches are spectacular and so are the babes in their bikinis!” he gushes.

Rio de Janeiro is known for its natural settings, carnival  celebrations, samba, beaches like the Copacabana and Ipanema. Some of the most famous landmarks in addition to the beaches include the giant statue of Christ the Redeemer atop Corcovado mountain, which has found place its place in one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

And if you are not a beach person, then visit the downtown area of Rio, which has the city’s oldest neighbourhoods, churches, museums, cafes, bars and restaurants.
Recalling a memorable experience from this colourful land, Padamsee says, “I once visited Rio in the month of February for a carnival. It was one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life.” He endorses that it is ‘the’ place to be. “People are warm and know how to live life to the fullest. The city sings and dances 24X7! Visit Rio and you will know for yourself,” he adds.

Travel tips

*How to get there:  International and most domestic flights land at Galeao-Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport. The airport is 20 kms away from the city centre and hotels.

*Best time to visit: Summer (December to March) is the peak season and when everything is really expensive in Rio. Try and visit this place during the off-season (May to October) to avoid the crowds.
