II PU classes to start on May 2

The Department of Pre-university Education (DPUE) on Wednesday released the calendar for the upcoming academic year.

Accordingly, the second PU classes would commence on May 2 while the first PUC Classes start on May 14.

According to C Shikha, director of the department, the first and second PUC examinations were held early and the students have availed vacation of 69 days in view of the forthcoming Legislative Assembly election this year.

The PU colleges have been informed through a circular that the last date for the issuance of application is five days from the announcement of the SSLC results, she added.

The last date for submission of applications will be two days after the issuance of the applications. In two days following this, the list of students, who have applied, must be displayed in the order of merit. Four days after the last date of issue of applications, the first list of candidates is to be displayed by individual colleges.

Three days after the third list of candidates is published, the colleges ought to display the list of students who have paid the fee and cut off percentage.

Shikha said that for students passing out of SSLC and taking admission to first PUC, a   provision for bridge course has been made in the academic calendar this time. The bridge course would be conducted in the first week of July for students.

"The department is going to bring out a common programme of work for all subjects and it provides for periods to be allocated for practice session along with regular classes in government colleges. The question banks prepared by the department will be used for practice sessions," she added.

"With government colleges opening early this year, it is expected to see a rise in
enrolment of students in these colleges. Last year, the government colleges were opened on June 1. This time, the opening date has been advanced by one month. The parents can thus choose government colleges," she added.
