Last Updated 11 April 2018, 20:01 IST

The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday directed the petitioners to file an affidavit in the court on the advantages and their effects, if Speaker of the Legislative Assembly disqualifies seven JD(S) rebel MLAs who have already resigned from their posts.

Two JD(S) legislators C N Balakrishna (MLA Shravanabelagola) and B B Ningaiah (Mudigere)  have filed a petition seeking disqualification of seven rebel JD (S) MLAs who had defied the party's whip in the 2016 elections to the Rajya Sabha by voting in favour of a Congress candidate.

The petitioners had also sought a direction to the Speaker not to permit them to cast vote in the Rajya Sabha election held last month.

Justice Raghvendra S Chauhan adjourned the hearing to April 16.
