RTPS generation down to 600 MW

Last Updated 03 May 2010, 16:39 IST

Of the seven units with a cumulative capacity of 210 MW per day, generation stopped at the the first, second and seventh units following a technical snag on Monday. The fourth unit is under annual maintenance. The total generation from the rest of units (third, fifth and sixth) totals to 600 MW, official sources said.

Generation at first and second units had come to standstill for a few hours, barely two days ago and became operational only on Sunday. It had already been 20 days since the fourth unit went silent. A team of experts from the Japan company which supplied the turbine is being awaited for its repair.

Frequent breakdowns

The generation units at the RTPS have been bogged by one or the other problem for the past one-and-a-half month, aggravating the power crisis in the State. Sources point out to “improper” supply of coal and the worn our units for frequent breakdowns. However, Chief Executive Officer Nagaraj said the units would be made re-operational soon.
