'CM must be put behind bars for supporting Halappa'

Addressing a news conference on Monday, Poojary said that CM has called Halappa as a ‘virtuous’ man and has passed a judgement that he can never do something heinous like rape. He has further called the entire episode to be a conspiracy.

“CM can be put behind bars for his attempt to conceal the truth. He must be arrested immediately by taking permission from the court,” Poojary said and added that a CBI inquiry must be ordered to find the truth in the case.

“Once the CM himself defends the accused, no police official will have the courage to go against the statement of the CM. Hence CoD inquiry will be of no use because CoD officials will have to go by CM’s orders. Hence CBI inquiry must be ordered,” he said and urged the lady who has been allegedly raped by Halappa to move to court in the issue fearlessly because the evidence she has is sufficient in the court of law to punish the accused.

IPC Section 376 states that any physical contact established with a woman without her consent is considered as rape. In many cases the court has prosecuted the accused just on the basis of the statement of the victim considering the statement itself as the evidence.

“If proper tests are conducted then the rape can be established and in such a case Halappa can be given 10 year imprisonment,” Poojary explained. Further demanding that CM should step down from his post because he is unfit to be a CM, Poojary said that Jagadish Shettar would be a better CM than B S Yeddyurappa. MLA U T Khader and others were present.
