'Be responsible, preserve greenery'

There has been change in climate all over the world. There is a need to protect environment to safeguard human beings,” said Divisional Officer Akrampasha.

Speaking at the World Environment Day organised by Bharath Scouts and Guides district unit, Mahilodaya Mahila Okkuta and various self help groups and Sthree Shakthi Sangha, he said “drought, landslide and shortage of water is due to the imbalance in nature. All of us have a greater responsibility to preserve greenery around us. It is our duty to see that our surroundings are not polluted. Cleanliness around our surroundings keep us in good health.”

District Kannada Sahithya Parishat President T P Ramesh said “the continuous attack on nature by human beings should be stopped. Sthree Shakthi Sagha should follow the ideals of Salu marada Thimakka and give importance to planting saplings.”

There is a need to create an awareness on environment among school children. The topic of environment should be included in the school curriculum, he added.
