Several complaints have been received alleging that some colleges have been compelling to purchase the prospectus. The Department of Pre-University Education has fixed the application price at Rs 15 and colleges should not charge more than that, Deputy Director Vijayaverma told reporters here recently.

Parents have expressed this displeasure over Mahila Samaja college in the city charging Rs 35 for a two-page prospectus in addition to Rs 15 as application fee. The institution has been directed not to compel students to purchase prospectus.

Similarly, aided colleges should not collect any money except the fixed fee. They must not collect donation and any complaints would be dealt with strictly according to rules. Action would be recommended against institutions found guilty of collecting donation from students.

Verma said while parents complain about colleges charging donation, they do not come forth to lodge complaints. Since action cannot be taken without a complaint, the Department cannot act against institutions collecting donation.

Students and parents can give any such information to the Deputy Director on 94488 96315.
