Opening weekend's races cancelled

Last Updated 12 May 2010, 17:45 IST

The summer races were scheduled to begin on Saturday, but the Stewards took the decision to cancel the races scheduled for Saturday and Sunday due to shortage of entries.

The present situation arose after the Karnataka Racehorse Owners’ Association (KROA) and the Karnataka Trainers Association (KTA) decided not to race their horses following the BTC decision to cut their stakes and incentives.

The BTC has taken away the 20% incentive paid to Karnataka-bred horses, the 20% incentive to local horses (summer incentive) and the 20% incentive to small owners of local horses, besides reducing the payment of basic training fee (BTF) from three months to one month and also doing away with performance-linked incentive.

With the BTC sticking to its stand, and the KROA and KTA not willing to race under the new rules, the opening week’s races had to be cancelled.
