JOIN USThe Sensex, which gained 54 points in the previous session, rose 70.06 points to 17,265.87, after touching the day's high of 17,389.15. Realty and auto stocks were among the major gainers.
The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty rose 22,25 points to 5,178.90. It touched the day's high of 5,212.70 and a low of 5,147.95.Barring metal, and oil and gas, all indices settled in the positive zone. In the 30-BSE index components, 21 closed higher while nine settled with losses.
The realty sector index gained the most by rising 2.50 per cent to 3,373.63 as Reliance Infrastructure, the third- largest utility, gained 2.73 per cent to Rs 1,027.85.The auto sector index was the second best performer at 7,888.87, up 2.09 per cent. Shares of Mahindra and Mahindra, a sport-utility vehicle and tractor maker, rose to to its highest in two months by 3.42 per cent to Rs 565.
