VC post: Weightage sought for BCs

Dwarkanath said that of the 20 universities in the State, not a single university is headed by a person belonging to backward classes.

“There are eight VCs belonging to Lingayat community, four Brahmins, one Bunt, one Jain, two SCs, two Muslims, one Vokkaliga. But not one university is headed by a person belonging to a backward class. As many as 95 communities belong to Category I of BCs and 102 communities fall under Category 2A. This is unfair. Now, there are four vacant VC posts. The governor in his capacity as Chancellor should give weightage to BCs, while making new appointments”, he said.
