PAC to scan NICE project

Last Updated 20 May 2010, 19:46 IST

“Currently, projects built under the PPP mode do not come under the scrutiny by either the CAG, or any other government organisations. To ensure that these projects are executed in a transparent manner the  PAC has decided to scan the files pertaining to such projects,” PAC chairman T B Jayachandra told reporters here.

Jayachandra, who led a delegation comprising V R Sudarshan, Chandrakant Bellad, Thippa Reddy, Malikaiah Guttedar and Basavaraj Patil Attur to Delhi, met Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily and CAG officials in this regard.

The PAC had already written to the Karnataka government seeking its cooperation pertaining to the NICE project. Though Karnataka has said that the legal battle over the project may come in the way of the government extendings its cooperation to PAC, Jayachandra said the panel was determined to scrutinise the project details as it involved 27,000 acres of public land.

Apart from the NICE project, PAC would also go through the financial dealings of the Bengaluru International Airport Limited and other projects implemented in the State, he said.
