Held-up transfers upset teachers

Last Updated 08 June 2009, 19:04 IST

The provisional list for high school teachers, which was scheduled to be announced on June 5 was out only on Monday.

A high school teacher, who had sought transfer from his current location, said that the department had originally said the list will be out on the website and had even given them a web address.

“We were asked to check the site but there was nothing on it. When we approached the authorities, they explained it away as a technical error. They put up the list in the morning and the counselling for vacancies is happening on the same day,” he said. Some of the teachers, who were camping overnight outside the ‘Shikshakara Sadan’ complained that there was very little time to put in their objections. Some others did not even find the list. While the list containing 106 high school teachers eligible for transfers was put up on Monday morning after a three day delay, the provisional list for primary school teachers was not announced.

The delay, they claimed, left them with very little time to give in their objections. A teacher said, “When will they announce the list and if we are not on the list we will not even have enough time to argue our case.”

However, officials at the Department of Public Instruction said that the process was on schedule. The Commissioner for Public Instruction, Kumar Naik said, “The process is happening as per schedule and in fact we have tightened the entire process to check faulty transfers.”

He added that if there was a delay at any stage during the process, the officials concerned were being issued notices.

The Joint-Director responsible for transfers and recruitment, N B Patil said the list was not put up earlier on the website due to a technical problem, but now it was ready.

“It was not possible to collate all the transfer records on time and put up on the website. But the list was sent to the respective Deputy Directors of Public Instruction (DDPI).”
Patil also added that the teachers will have enough time to put in their objections as the final list will be out only on June 12.
