Trying to recreate the magic of their earlier runaway hit “Malai Malai”, director-actor duo of Venkatesh and Arun Vijay are back with “Maanja Velu”. A facsimile of Telugu blockbuster “Lakshyam”, their latest offering though leaves a lot to be desired. Of course, for frenzied loyal fans it is whistling and hooting time as their heroes go about the slam-bang filmi business in staccato style.

A routine rendition of sincere cop staving off devilish deeds of dreaded settlement-gangster and his hoodlums forms the familiar track of “Maanja...” which kickoff with a two-hour flashback. Playing derring-do ACP Bose is Karthik while Arun Vijay teams up as his college-going brother Velu, who take on the villains.
