LIC offers help to air crash victims

Last Updated 25 May 2010, 17:41 IST

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Udupi division of the LIC Manager (Personnel) Adishesha said “it will take some time for the family members to approach us to claim the amount of the policies held in the names of those killed. Now all the family members are in state of shock and are grieving over the death of their beloved. So far, nobody has approached us to make the claims.”

The LIC has decided to dispense with the death certificate in the case of air-crash victims to ensure expeditious settlement of the claims.  Death in the air crash will be treated as an accident and accident benefit will be payable to the nominees, wherever applicable, he added.

“The family members if possible nominee of the policy holder can contact us along with the policy bond and proof. If everything is ready, then settlement can be done within a day itself. We have contacted all the LIC branches in the region and have directed them to contact the agents to be in touch with the family of the deceased and fasten the procedures of the settlement,” he informed.

The family members can contact for any assistance in processing the claims: Uma Rao, Senior Divisional Manager, Udupi (0820-2520310), and Baptist D’Almeida, Marketing Manager, Udupi (0820-2530417).  Alternatively, the LIC helpline 0820-2536907, as published on its website www.licindia.in, can also be contacted in this regard, he added.
