Man killed in mishap

A man was killed and two others sustained injuries when a SUV turned turtle on the main road of Karekoppa near here on Friday.

The deceased is Arun, son of Madikeri-based businessman B Krishna. The injured are Kavan from Madikeri and Kushalnagar based tyre company owner Pawan Ponnappa. The three were returning to Kushalnagar when the incident occurred.

Arun, who was driving the car lost control near a curve in Yadavanad Reserve Forest area and fell into a gorge where the car hit a tree and turned turtle. Arun died on the spot. The injured are battling for life in a private hospital in Mangalore. Somwarpet police inspector M Mahesh visited the spot.

Cultural programmes

Additional deputy commissioner K M Chandre Gowda flagged off a cultural programme presented by tribals on Friday at Somwarpet.

The programme was organised by the information department. Somwarpet tahsildar Bhaskar, and others were present. The team presented cultural programme at district jail at Karnangeri.
