When the kin of Naved Ibrahim Siraj from Udupi arrived at KMC hospital in Attavar in Mangalore to receive the body, they were shocked to see that there were major visible differences in the body. “Naved was 5 foot 3 inches toll, but the DNA-identified body is more than 6 foot tall,” the kin argued and refused to accept the body.

Further, they said that Naved had shaved his beard two days prior to his trip to Mangalore and also had taken his photograph. But the body in the mortuary has thick mustache. Also, Naved did not have hair in his chest, unlike the body in question,” argues Naved’s brother Shaheed and showed the photograph to the officials present there.

“The body would have blown out of proportion after his death, but can it grow tall,” he questions and argues “how can he grow thick mustache in two days,” questioned Naved’s father Aboobakker.

Meanwhile, the body next to the one shown by the officials almost matches with that of Naved. Hence, there is a possibility of mix up, he said and and added that the same has been brought to the notice of Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh who has agreed for a re-DNA test.

“Until Naved’s body is confirmed, no other body should be handed over to the relatives,” said the kin of Naved, but police have turned down their plea. Out of the 10 bodies, a total of 6 bodies have been claimed by the relatives on Wednesday. The kin of deceased crew are expected to arrive on Thursday as both the bodies of crew members have been identified.
