After Mysore MP Vishwanath, Opposition leader in the Council Motamma has dashed a letter to the Party High Command expressing her opposition. The Congress would lose the status of Principal Opposition party in the Council if it gives up one MLC seat to the JD(S), she stated.

The Congress will give away one  seat to the JD(S) in return for its support to the second Rajya Sabha seat. The Congress can easily win two Council seats considering its strength in the Assembly.

The JD(S) is likely to take its final decision on its candidates for Legislative Council polls on Monday, the last date of filing nomination papers.

Sources said Afzer Aga, Suranarayana Reddy and Narayana Raju are the strong contenders. Names of Basavanagouda Patil Yatnal and Sarovara Srinivas are also making rounds.
