Residents of village demand an underpass for preventing accidents

Accident sparks protest

A person was grievously injured  when a lorry rammed into his moped while he was heading towards Kondenahalli from Chikkaballapur on Monday. He died while being shifted to the hospital. For the past three days  series of accidents have taken place on the stretch.

Enraged with the accidents the village dwellers from in and surrounding areas staged a road blockade and demanded an  underpass at the location.

“Socres of people commute daily between Chadalupura and Kondenahalli. The people find it difficult to cross roads near the bypass as there is heavy vehicular density on the stretch. The stretch poses danger of accidents while crossing the road. Hence, to prevent  accidents an underpass should be constructed at the location,” they demanded. The agitators staged a sit-in on the stretch and demanded the Deputy Commissioner to visit the spot.
Meanwhile, Circle Inspector of Police pacified the agitators and convinced them to withdraw their protest. He also promised the protesters to arrange a visit by the Additional Deputy Commissioner to the spot.

But even as the officer failed to turn up at the spot, the village residents resumed their protest. They burnt the tyres and shouted slogans against the officer.

Measures promised
Later the protest was withdrawn when the Additional Deputy Commissioner G S Nayak rushed to the spot and promised to take action shortly after a detailed discussion with the officers concerned.

Satish Chadulupura, Srinivas, G N Narashimamurthy, Manjunath Ramaswamy, Devishettyhalli Gangadhar and others led the protest.
